is a critical text in which critic Dongjin Seo revisits the forgotten strata of internationalism known as the Non-Aligned Movement and its artistic practices. It excavates scenes of solidarity buried in history, such as the transformation of the Yogyakarta Biennale in Indonesia, the Palestine Solidarity Exhibition, and the Shiraz-Persepolis Art Festival, and reflects on how they collide or intersect with the contemporary global art system. Rather than simply reminiscing about the past, Jin Lee explores new possibilities for artistic practices through traces of movements that imagined and constructed the world differently. Through the concept of the ‘archive of solidarity,’ he sheds new light on Third World practices that have been overlooked by Western-centered art history and art institutions, and asks whether art today can recover the language of history.
