Deity Journal 01. Lord Tiger – The Earth Tiger Edition

Among the deities in Taiwanese Taoist belief, Lord Tiger is one of the most commonly seen yet most often overlooked. In fact, he plays an important role. This zine will introduce you to Lord Tiger — chubby and cute, yet still dignified. He is a guardian, taking on responsibilities such as protecting communities, temples, deities, and children. At the same time, he also has powers to bring wealth and cure illnesses.

In Taiwan, Lord Tiger is divided into the Heavenly Tiger and the Earthly Tiger. This first issue focuses on the Earthly Tiger, who is more familiar to the public. Through this work, we hope more people can get to know Lord Tiger.

The content is divided into three parts:

• A fold-out story introducing Lord Tiger

• What offerings to present to Lord Tiger (meat or vegetarian)

• What kind of spirit money can be burned for Lord Tiger

Each zine is handmade by the author. Because of this, it may carry a bit of a handmade feel and might not be absolutely perfect — please forgive any imperfections. Every Lord Tiger zine is one of a kind.
