Water flows through our lives as sustenance, border, weapon, and witness. If geography - etymologically, the writing of the earth - has long underpinned the spatial logics of modern geopolitics, hydrography - conventionally understood as the mapping and measurement of waterways - is reconceived here as a fluid cartography through which common desires, shared struggles, and transnational solidarities can be imagined.

Hydrographies explores the political, ecological, and cosmological dimensions of water through contemporary visual art and moving image practices. It brings together artists, filmmakers, activists, writers, and scholars whose work approaches water as a contested terrain, revealing how rivers, oceans, and wetlands are mobilized in struggles over land, sovereignty, and survival. Across conversations, essays, and artistic contributions, the volume moves through colonial infrastructures, hydropolitical regimes, and submerged histories while engaging ancestral knowledges, ecological grief, and forms of cinematic imagination.
