The Institut de l’Environnement (1969–1971) was a school in Paris with an interdisciplinary orientation. Founded in the heated atmosphere generated by worldwide student protests and by a growing awareness of the threat posed to the environment, this research and training center set out to redefine the way architecture and design are taught and the role that research plays in the process. The focus of the Bauhaus Lab 2024 was on the institute’s teaching and research activities and the cultural context in which it operated. Out of this has emerged a publication that examines the fragmented history of the institute by exploring the question “What is the environment?”
