By Mariken Overdijk, with a Foreword in collaboration with Jeroen Boomgaard

This book is about bodies. About how bodies traverse the familiar surroundings of one’s home or move along the familiar routes of everyday life, but also about the relation of bodies to the public space. On another level, the book shows what the meaning of artistic research can be. Research tells of experiments and experiences, collections and vistas gained by the researcher during the course of the research. This book shows that any good (artistic) research creates futures.

The book stages research, wanders, interrogates, describes, draws, explores, and thus offers a series of choreographies of ordinary life. Through this Mariken Overdijk makes clear that a work of art is not a one-time, singular event, but creates a possibility that, however minimal, changes lives forever.

This book presents the work of Mariken Overdijk, artist and lecturer at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy, with a Foreword in collaboration with Jeroen Boomgaard, former professor of LAPS, the Lectorate Art & Public Space of the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam. Mariken Overdijk graduated at the MA Home of Performance Practices, ArtEZ University of the Arts in Arnhem.
