One hundred years ago, playwright Berta Lask was commissioned by the German Communist Party to write a play marking the four-hundredth anniversary of the German Peasants’ War. She imagined its leader, Thomas Müntzer, awakening every century to confront the present. First published here in print translation, the play asks what Müntzer would see today: climate collapse, imperialism, gendered oppression, genocide, and resurgent fascism. This edition pairs the newly translated text with a companion volume of commentaries and interventions, exploring revolutionary history, memory, and political theatre. Translated by Sam Dolbear with collaborators and edited by Dolbear, the two A4 volumes are designed by Ott Kagovere and wrapped in a poster by Sam Keogh.
