You Have a New Memory

What generative potential rests in image fragments, incomplete records, or partially told stories? Taken as an ideal, the library acts as a kind of collective mind, gathering and archiving language, data, ephemera, and individual and collective histories, and preserving these artefacts in relevant catalogues. But things can be misplaced, misnomered, or missed entirely. It is here in the unknown that new connections occur. As part of an exhibition at State Library Victoria in Melbourne, this book explores the creative possibilities of memory loss in the library. It unearths images that ask us to re-examine how a library remembers, and how our own thoughts interact with the memories of others.
